Warsaw ghetto commemoration seeks to overcome post-Holocaust politics
The presidents of Israel and Germany will commemorate the Jewish rebellion in the Warsaw ghetto on Wednesday in a demonstrate of unity amid strained relations as Poland’s govt pushes a nationalist narrative of the country’s purpose in the second earth war. The 80th anniversary of the ghetto uprising, the most major Jewish act of armed resistance in opposition to the Nazis, comes just 6 months right after Warsaw filed a claim against Germany for €1.3tn in reparations for losses inflicted by the Nazis.
