Five losing teams that can surprise like TCU with 2023 national championship appearance

    January 12, 2023 /

TCU’s run to the College Football Playoff National Championship wasn’t supposed to happen. Whether unintentional or by design, when it comes to determining a national champion, college football has always been a sport great at separating the wheat from the chaff. It’s a sport where Cinderella isn’t even supposed to make it to 9 p.m., let alone midnight. While TCU’s run is unlikely to ever happen again before playoff expansion, if we look past what the Horned Frogs have been…

Looking to turn chips into a ‘chip, TCU may alter sport with victory in College Football Playoff title game

    January 9, 2023 /

LOS ANGELES — Johnny Hodges loves his chips. “We’re a team full of chips,” the TCU linebacker said. In Hodges shorthand, that translates to chips on shoulders. A cliché, sure, but an entree into the heart of the No. 3 Horned Frogs. They weren’t meant to be here in the College Football Playoff National Championship. In fact, the last team in a similar position was BYU in 1984. Those Cougars are the most recent national champions coming from outside the current Power Five. TCU as a member of the Big 12 is clearly a Power Five team these days, but it’s been a league-hopper over the last quarter century. When…

Michigan vs. TCU live score, updates, highlights from 2022 College Football Playoff semifinal

    January 1, 2023 /

College football’s preeminent competition will kick off under the most ideal of conditions. No. 2 Michigan will take on No. 3 TCU in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl inside comfy State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. The game is the first semifinal in this year’s College Football Playoff, and it carries some intrigue. On the line is a berth in the national championship game — a contest neither school has been able to reach since a title game was instituted. College football winners, losers of 2022 season: Alabama hits floor under Nick Saban, TCU shatters CFP mold

    December 10, 2022 /

The regular season is over and the bowl schedule is set, so it’s time to look back at the teams and people that will stick with us from the 2022 college football season. If there’s one thing we learned this year — heck, if there’s one thing we learn every year — it’s that so little of what we expect to happen actually comes to fruition.  Take the College Football Playoff race. A new era emerged as Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma all missed the cut. Ohio State, which didn’t even win the Big Ten East for the second straight year, backed its way in as the No. 4 seed. Conversely,…
